Description:
This course is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of black-and-white photography from camera controls to film development and print processing. Through demonstrations, lectures, slide/video presentations, and assigned projects, you will develop a basic vocabulary for creating, discussing, and criticizing photographs.
Topical Outline:
1. Introduction to the use of the 35mm film camera
2. Introduction to the use of the black-and-white darkroom
3. Introduction/overview of the historical scope of the medium of photography
4. Students produce photographs within the confines of assignments intended to provide both an awareness of how photography has developed as an art and communications medium, and the technical aspects of the medium relating to that development
5. Introduction to the critique process
6. Develop personal expression through the medium of photography
Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate proficient use of the 35mm film camera
2. Demonstrate competency with the black-and-white darkroom
3. Articulate general knowledge of the history and development of the medium
4. Apply technical and conceptual knowledge towards the production of personal artwork
