Description:
This course refines and expands on concepts learned in Painting 1. It also guides you to develop a personal style so that you may interpret your world in an individual way. Important to the class is the discussion of paintings-your own and the paintings of others. You will learn about well-known painters and paintings and use community galleries and museums as a source for your study.
Topical Outline:
1. The use of a diverse group of traditional and nontraditional painting techniques, to further personal expression
2. Extended learning resources in painting via museums and galleries
3. Further develop an understanding of basic painting principles: composition, value, mark making or texture and color
4. Develop personal expression and aesthetic in painting
5. Demonstrate a connection between paintings created and the content of those images
6. Develop a personal painting portfolio
Learning Outcomes:
1. Observe and understand painting as it relates to the museum and gallery system(s) both historically and in contemporary contexts
2. Demonstrate knowledge of diverse painting methods
3. Manipulate diverse painting media: watercolor, gouache, acrylic and oils
4. Develop and communicate one’s own personal aesthetic
5. Originate critical responses to one’s own and other’s art work
6. Develop a personal painting portfolio
