Description:

In the Sleep Technology (Polysomnography) program at Minneapolis College, you will gain knowledge and skills needed to perform quality sleep studies. Sleep Technology graduates will be qualified to take the National Registry Exam, and work in clinical sleep centers and hospitals across the nation. An understanding of sleep disorders, and therapies used to treat patients is the foundation of this field of study. Sleep Technologists will perform diagnostic sleep studies, educate, evaluate and treat patients who have been diagnosed with sleep disorders. This program includes the required clinical experience in accredited sleep centers.

 PSOM Program Elective: Students can opt to take PSOM 2400. This course is not required for the Sleep Technology (Polysomnography) AAS degree. The course is open to PSOM students who have completed PSOM 1300 and non-degree seeking students who work in the field. Degree seeking students who choose not to take PSOM 2400 will need to take two additional credits of elective coursework. This elective coursework can be taken from any discipline except for developmental coursework (courses with numbers under 1000). Developmental courses cannot be used toward completion of program requirements.

General Education Courses (18 Credits):

To complete the Sleep Technology (Polysomnographic) A.A.S. degree, students are required to complete 18 credits of General Education coursework outlined above.

The Sleep Technology (Polysomnographic) Program Requires:

  • Grades of “C” (2.0) or above in all PSOM theory and combination theory/lab courses and all program-required General Education courses;
  • Pass (P) grades in clinical internship and seminar courses; and
  • Passing of a criminal background check prior to being placed in a PSOM internship. The College cannot guarantee placement in internships for students who do not have a clear criminal background check.

All students pursuing this award should work closely with their advisor to ensure proper selection of required program courses, if applicable program electives, required Minnesota Transfer Curriculum courses, and MnTC electives. You are expected to meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure courses are taken in an order that will lead to efficient and successful completion of the required coursework.
