Family Wellness (HLTH 1145)

Description: This course provides the theoretical foundation and practical experience for promoting physical activity, mindfulness and healthy nutrition in the family unit. You will engage in health-related fitness and mindfulness activities with a member of your family to improve your health and build positive family relationships. You will identify community family resources and attend a wellness event with your family. You will also identify and cook healthy, nutritious meals.

Topical Outline:
1. Dimensions of Wellness.
2. Health-related fitness theory, research and activities.
3. Mindfulness theory, research and activities.
4. Family nutrition theory, research and recipes; including eating healthy on a budget.
5. Family wellness resources in the community.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Develop and apply coping strategies to balance one’s health now and gain resiliency for the future
