Description:
In this course, you will learn about infectious diseases and disease concepts, with emphasis on prevention and control of infectious diseases in the individual, family and community. You will study a broad spectrum of infectious-disease topics, including disease causes, transmission, outbreaks, and personal and family protection. You will debate the influence of geography, culture, politics and economic factors on infectious diseases. In class, you will discuss common diseases such as influenza, food-borne illnesses, and sexually transmitted diseases; as well as more exotic diseases, such as pandemic influenza, newly emerging diseases, and diseases caused by bioterrorism.

5. Emergency preparedness for large infectious disease outbreaks
