Herbal Pharmacy (HERB 1200)

Description: This is a hands-on course providing techniques for harvesting and drying herbs and incorporating them into herbal products, such as decoctions, infusions, tinctures, lotions, steams, and salves. You will participate in field trips that include identification of medicinal herbs to develop an understanding of how and when individual herbs are harvested. Must be taken A-F.

Learning Outcomes:
1. 1. Calculate proportions and dosages for herbal medicine preparations
2. 2. Create herbal medicine preparations including infusions, decoctions, tinctures, salves and poultices
3. 3. Identify herbal medicine plants in their ecosystem
4. 4. Utilize traditional and current information pertaining to correct harvesting time and plant part harvested to develop how specific plants are made into effective medicines
5. 5. Follow ethical and safety guidelines for making herbal medicines

Prerequisites: 

Placement score into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052.
