Psychopharmacology (COUN 2520)

Description: This course will acquaint you with psychoactive drug classifications and with the physiological, biochemical, and psychological effects of mind-altering drugs. This course describes the characteristics of several types of mental illness, how they co-vary with chemical dependency and how education and counseling techniques are used in treatment. Must be taken A-F.

1. 1. Recall the names, classification and major clinical effects of psychoactive drugs of abuse and addiction
2. 2. Describe the functioning of the central nervous system and how it is affected by psychoactive chemicals
3. 3. Identify the basic mental health disorders and medication management

Prerequisites: 

Placement score into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052.
