Refrigeration Fundamentals (HVAC 1000)

Total Credits: 2
Lecture Credits: 1.00
Lab Credits: 1.00

Description: You will learn the theory of refrigeration involving temperature/pressure relationship, heat transfer, sensible and latent heat, and laws of thermal dynamics. The mechanical refrigeration cycle (including compressors, metering devices, evaporators, and condensers) will be covered, along with refrigeration pressure controls and heat pump theory. Must be taken A-F.

Topical Outline:

Learning Outcomes:
1. 1. Interpret pressure/temperature relationship in a sealed refrigeration system
2. 2. Interpret mechanical components in a sealed refrigeration system
3. 3. Properly use manifold gauge sets to diagnose sealed refrigeration systems
4. 4. Interpret refrigeration pressure controls
5. 5. Interpret basic heat pump systems

Prerequisites:

Placement score into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052.
