Minneapolis College’s Early Childhood Education program works closely with Minneapolis College’s Education program emphasizing cultural diversity and urban teaching. General Education Courses (30 Credits):

To complete the Early Childhood Education A.S. degree, students must successfully complete 30 credits of General Education coursework; 14 credits of required General Education coursework are listed in the award outlined above. Additionally, 16 credits, including one course from MnTC Goal Area 3 with a lab science and one additional course from MnTC Goal Area 1 are required.

*Students completing the A.S. degree are required to have a MnTC Goal Area 4 course. Students can take PHIL 2110 Logic or any Math course that meets MnTC Goal Area 4. Students who choose to complete an MnTC Goal Area 4 Math course will need to have a college level math placement. Please work with your advisor to select the appropriate MnTC Goal Area 4 course.

The Early Childhood Education also Program Requires:

  • Grades of “C” (2.0) or above in all ECED courses.
  • Passing of a criminal background check during the first class in ECED and yearly thereafter in order to be able to access programs in the community for assignments in course work as well as prior to a placement in practicum.
    • The college cannot guarantee a placement in practicum or for coursework observations for students who do not have a clear criminal background check.

All students pursuing this award should work closely with their advisor to ensure proper selection of required program courses, if applicable program electives, required Minnesota Transfer Curriculum courses, and MnTC electives. You are expected to meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure courses are taken in an order that will lead to efficient and successful completion of the required coursework.
