Description:
The Cinema Studies Program at Minneapolis College covers narrative, documentary, and experimental cinema. The courses explore cinema from all over the world and across time periods. Through these genres, students will explore three areas of film study: film art and analysis of film images; film history and its social contexts; and an overview of the major theoretical and critical approaches to the study of film, including concepts of genre, auteur, psychoanalysis and technology. Minneapolis College has an articulation agreement with Augsburg College. Cinema Studies courses are not available for auditing.

To earn the Cinema Studies Certificate, students are required to successfully complete 9 credits of General Education including MnTC Goal Area 1.
Note: ENGL 1110 or ENGA 1110 and ENGL 1111 satisfy Goal Area 1.
All students pursuing this award should work closely with their advisor to ensure proper selection of required program courses, if applicable program electives, required Minnesota Transfer Curriculum courses, and MnTC electives.
