Gas Tungsten Arc Welding-DC Applications (WELD 1400)

Description: This course covers the theory, power sources and machine controls utilized in gas tungsten arc welding commonly known as TIG welding. You will be welding on a variety of materials using direct current. Proper welding technique will also be covered.

Learning Outcomes:
1. 1. Understand hazards associated with arc welding, high frequency AC current and the use of compressed gasses
2. 2. Comprehend GTAW theory including direct current application, filler metal/shielding gas selection and tungsten electrode selection/preparation
3. 3. Properly utilize power sources, machine controls and equipment
4. 4. Demonstrate proper welding technique on steel in all positions on various joint designs
5. 5. Demonstrate proper welding technique on stainless steel in all positions on various joint designs

Prerequisites: 

Placement score into READ 0200 or placement score into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052.
