Description:
MCTC’s Early Childhood Education program works closely with MCTC’s Education program emphasizing cultural diversity and urban teaching. Working with children and families of all backgrounds, you will learn to create healthy, respectful and challenging learning environments in urban childcare centers, nursery schools, elementary classrooms and afterschool programs.

General Education Courses (7 Credits):
To complete the Early Childhood Education Diploma, students must successfully complete seven credits of General Education coursework. ENGL 1110 and AMSL 1000 are required and satisfy the seven credits of General Education.
The Early Childhood Education also Program Requires:
- Grades of “C” (2.0) or above in all ECED courses.
- Passing of a criminal background check during the first class in ECED and yearly thereafter in order to be able to access programs in the community for assignments in course work as well as prior to a placement in practicum.
- The college cannot guarantee a placement in practicum or for coursework observations for students who do not have a clear criminal background check.

All students pursuing this award should work closely with their advisor to ensure proper selection of required program courses, if applicable program electives, required Minnesota Transfer Curriculum courses, and MnTC electives. You are expected to meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure courses are taken in an order that will lead to efficient and successful completion of the required coursework.
