Description:
The Directing and Producing curriculum immerses you in the art, craft, business and discipline of directing and explores the structures and conventions of cinematic storytelling. You will collaborate with cast members and crews, interpret scripts, elicit dramatic performances, determine camera coverage strategies, design “look” and emotional tone and supervise the final work in the cutting room.

General Education Courses (30 Credits):
To earn the Directing A.S. degree, students are required to successfully complete 30 credits of General Education as follows:
- 18 credits of program-required General Education courses: CIST 1101 and CIST 1102; CIST 1103 and CIST 1104; ENGL 1110 or ENGA 1110 and ENGL 1111.
- 12 credits of recommended General Education selected from at least six of the MnTC Goal Areas. As a general rule, a minimum of three credits must be completed from Goal Area 1, and three credits from Goal Areas 7, 8, 9 or 10. (See list of recommended courses above).
Note: ENGL 1110 or ENGA 1110 satisfies MnTC Goal Area 1. CIST 1101 and CIST 1102 satisfy MnTC Goal Area 6, CIST 1103 satisfies MnTC Goal Areas 6 and 8, and CIST 1104 satisfies MnTC Goal Areas 6 and 7.

All students pursuing this award should work closely with their advisor to ensure proper selection of required program courses, if applicable program electives, required Minnesota Transfer Curriculum courses, and MnTC electives. You are expected to meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure courses are taken in an order that will lead to efficient and successful completion of the required coursework.
