Awards - Chemistry
Chemistry
Award:
Associate of Science
Total Credits for Award:
60.00
Description:
You will learn and apply central theories in general, organic, analytical, and forensic chemistry or biochemistry. The program includes physics, mathematics and electives required for transfer. You will learn the applications of chemistry to various disciplines, including health sciences, biological sciences and engineering. You will gain extensive laboratory experience utilizing various techniques and instruments. You will learn computer skills associated with data analysis and presentation, good laboratory practices and how to document laboratory procedures. You will learn to effectively work in cooperative teams in a laboratory setting to plan and complete experiments in a timely manner, as well as to give oral and written presentations.
MCTC's Chemistry major is specifically designed to prepare students for transfer into the junior or third year of chemistry major at four-year colleges or universities.

The total credits for each semester will vary depending on which Math and program electives courses are selected to complete the A.S. in Chemistry. All students pursuing this degree should work closely with their advisor to select the required program, courses, program electives and the MnTC general education coursework to ensure that they meet the required 60 credits for the A.S. Chemistry degree.
General Education: The required 30 credit general education coursework within the maximum 60 credit limit of the program must be selected from at least six of the MnTC Goal Areas. Among these, the required science courses fall within MnTC Goal Areas 3 (CHEM, PHYS), the required math course falls within MnTC Goal Area 4. The required English course falls within the mandatory MnTC Goal Area 1 and a minimum of three credits must be completed from Goal Areas 7, 8, 9 or 10. Students who choose to take CHEM 1145 will satisfy MnTC Goal Area 9. The remaining 2 goal areas can be chosen from any of the MnTC Goal Areas.
