Trends and Issues in Nursing (NPRO 2300)

Description: This course provides nursing students in the NPRO program with the learning experience they need in order to successfully transition to the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) completion program at Augsburg College. Students will examine professionalism in nursing, ethical dilemmas in the context of changing health care needs, and quality improvement in a culture of safety.

1. 1. Synthesize knowledge from the liberal arts with the art and science of nursing
2. 2. Evaluate emerging roles of professional nurses in context of the health care needs of local and global communities
3. 3. Demonstrate accountability for ethical nursing practice based on professional standards
4. 4. Discuss inquiry, analysis and information literacy to address practice issues
5. 5. Discuss the roles, scope of practice and educational preparation of the professional nurse
6. 6. Explore ethical dilemmas within patient care and discuss the interprofessional role of nursing to help resolve these issues.
