Description:

This course introduces Apple Mac Operating Systems. You will develop an understanding of the basic functions of an operating system, as well as unique qualities of Apple operating systems. You will learn to organize desktops; work with shortcuts; navigate, organize, copy, and view the contents of the file system; develop a strategy for troubleshooting problems; evaluate system performance; develop backup strategies. You will use basic terminal (command line) commands to manage the system. You will use mechanisms that enable interoperability with Windows. You will manage user accounts, configure basic system security, configure networking, and file sharing. Students in the ITEC program have the option of testing out of this course through successful completion of an online examination. Must be taken A-F.

1. 1. Distinguish the basic functions of an operating system, organizing desktops, customize client files, working with shortcuts
2. 2. Manage and organize files, folders and other file structures in the Apple file system on hard drives and removable media
3. 3. Develop a strategy for troubleshooting problems, troubleshoot problems using appropriate tools, and troubleshoot software
4. 4. Evaluate system performance, practice methods of maintaining and improving system performance
5. 5. Examine and implement backup strategies and tools which maintain data integrity; appreciate the importance of such tools
6. 6. Identify and use appropriate basic command-line commands to operate a Apple computer

Prerequisites: 

Placement score into MATH 0080 or completion of MATH 0070 or MATH 0077.
