Description:
This course is a survey of world history examining ancient, classical and medieval civilizations prior to the emergence of the West as a world power (c. 3500 BCE-1450 CE). The course explores how environmental, economic, political, social, religious, and other intellectual and cultural factors combined in different ways to influence the development of major world regions-Africa, Eurasia, and the Americas. The goal is for you to understand how fundamental institutions and cultural norms of different world regions developed out of their own internal environments, as well as in response to developments and influences from other cultural systems and historical forces.

Prerequisites:
Placement score into READ 0200 or placement score into ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 with faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052.
