Description: This course will examine the impact of child development, relationships, culture, and the environment on positive behavioral guidance in early-childhood settings. You will explore strategies for interacting with individual children, small or large groups, and developing caring social communities with a focus on developmental approaches that consider self-discipline as an emerging skill and acknowledges collaboration between school and home settings. Must be taken A-F.

2. 2. Investigate culturally responsive guidance strategies
3. 3. Identify observation methods that inform guidance strategies
4. 4. Describe developmentally appropriate positive guidance approaches for individuals and groups
5. 5. Identify transition strategies and prosocial teaching tools
6. 6. Consider environmental impacts on behaviors and behavior prevention

Prerequisites: 

Placement score into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042 and faculty recommendation into ESOL 0052.
