Description: In this course, you will develop skills essential for work in a legal office. Your experience will include study of legal terminology, ethics and confidentiality, time and billing records, scheduling, court dates, depositions and appointments, maintaining client files, telephone techniques, and preparation of legal documents and legal correspondence. You will also study the three branches of government and the state and federal court systems. Must be taken A-F.

1. 1. Be comfortable with the roles of various legal office professionals, the structure of a law office, ethical considerations of the legal field, and the importance of client and interoffice relationships
2. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of functions and procedures common to a legal environment, including telephone techniques, mail procedures, time keeping, billing, financial management, file and records management, and docket control

Prerequisites: 

Placement score into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052.
