Description:
This course is a worldwide survey of art from the prehistoric through the Gothic period. Through discussions, lectures and museum visits, you will learn to understand art within its historical and social context, and to interpret the meaning of art in an informed manner.

1. 1. Understand the artistic theories, concepts, and terminologies used in the periods between Prehistoric through Medieval and apply them to specific works of art
2. 2. Analyze how historical and political events influence world art from the Prehistoric through Medieval periods
3. 3. Identify and analyze major works of art from these periods according to style and content
4. 4. Recognize that art is self expression and communicates what is relevant to the artist, based on culture, gender, age etc.
Prerequisites:
Placement score into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042.
