Description:
This choir prepares and performs music in a variety of musical styles ranging from Classical to World Music. You do not need to audition to be part of this group, and no previous musical background is expected. You will perform publicly as a member of the choir at least once per semester. You will develop your ability to sing, and improve your musical skills.

Vocal Ensemble (MUSL 1220)

Description:
This choir is a select (auditioned) choir that sings music from the Western Classical repertoire and choral music from cultures beyond the United States, with occasional infusions of jazz and pop music. The music performed in this choir is more challenging than that of
MUSL 1210 (College Choir), so some choral singing experience and familiarity with music notation are expected. You will perform publicly at least once per semester.

Audition/interview with director.

Chamber Ensemble (MUSL 1230)

Description:
This ensemble prepares and performs music in the Western Art Music tradition. You will work in groups as small as duets and as large as the total class size, learning repertoire created for smaller ensembles. You will perform publicly at least once per semester.
Prerequisites:
Students must be able to read music at an intermediate level or better and provide their own instrument, with the exception of a piano. While it is not mandatory, an applied lesson on the student's instrument is highly recommended.

Jazz Ensemble 1 (MUSL 1240)

Description:
This ensemble prepares and performs music from contemporary and jazz-rock styles. You will perform publicly at least once per semester, using arrangements that are designed primarily for small jazz combos rather than Big Band.
Prerequisites:
Students must be able to read music at an intermediate level or better and provide their own instrument, with the exception of piano. While it is not mandatory, an applied lesson on the student's instrument is highly recommended.

You will develop skills in performing and creating on your instrument, in lessons that are individualized based on your skill level. You will enhance your musicianship as well as your technical skills.
