Description:  This course teaches computer applications as a business productivity tool. Topics will include introduction to Windows operating system, hardware and software, data communications, data security, and the Internet and WorldWide Web. You will use MS Word to create a Word document, MS Access to create a database, MS Excel to create a worksheet with a chart, MS PowerPoint to create a presentation, and MS Outlook email for communicating and networking with Outlook. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites: 

Placement score into MATH 0070. Keyboarding skills of at least 25 WPM are strongly recommended.

Keyboarding 1 (BTEC 1060)

Total Credits:  3   Lecture Credits:  1.00   Lab Credits:  2.00  
Description:  In this course, you will develop touch-control of the keyboard and proper keyboarding techniques; build speed and accuracy; and practice applying basic skills to the formatting of letters, reports, memos, tables, emails and other kinds of business communication. The keyboarding goal will be to attain a minimum speed of 40 WPM with five errors or fewer on a five-minute timing. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites: 

Placement score into READ 1300 or completion of READ 0200 or ESOL 0052. It is strongly recommended that students can touch type 25 WPM or successful completion of a high school keyboarding course.

Description:  This Microsoft Word course is designed to cover all of the learning objectives for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exam. Microsoft Office Specialist-approved textbooks and courseware are used for this course. You will learn to navigate Microsoft Office Word software at the feature and functionality level. You will learn the features and capabilities of Microsoft Office Word. You will learn to use Microsoft Office Word to create and edit professional-looking documents for a variety of purposes and situations. Topics covered in this class include: sharing and maintaining documents, formatting content, applying page layout and reusable content, including illustrations and graphics in a document, proofreading documents, applying references and hyperlinks, and performing mail merge operations. Administrative Assistant/Software Support Internship (BTEC 2450)

Description:  The BTEC internship provides occupational experience in your major field. A training plan is developed for each student in cooperation with a supervisor at the training site. You will apply skills and knowledge acquired in coursework to an actual work setting. The 3-credit BTEC Internship requires a total of 120 hours of on-site training. Must be taken Pass/Fail.
Prerequisites:
