Description:  This course will focus on evidence based holistic nursing care for health promotion, wellness, and disease prevention. You will learn to acquire knowledge regarding caring for adults with chronic variations in health. In this concept-based course, you will understand the role of the professional nurse and practice the provision of care and health promotion for middle-aged and older adults. You will understand and apply the nursing process to support critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and sound judgment. Additionally, you will use therapeutic communication to provide culturally responsive and client centered care, grounded in the principle of adult learning. Must be taken A-F
Prerequisites:  Admission to the Nursing Program.

Nursing Transitions (NPRO 1010)

Description:  This course holistically focuses on evidenced based nursing care for health promotion and disease prevention as you acquire knowledge regarding caring for older adults with chronic variations in health. Emphasis will be placed on the registered nurse's (RN) role and practice, the provision of care, and health promotion of middle-aged and older adults. You will apply the nursing process to support critical thinking-reasoning-judgment, and therapeutic communication to provide culturally responsive and client centered care, grounded in the priciples of adult learning. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites:  Admission to the Nursing Program, Licensed Practical Nurse with unencumbered Minnesota license.
Co-requisites:  BIOL 2227 and BIOL 2228

Wellness-Illness Concepts Across the Lifespan (NPRO 1100)

Description:  This course focuses on nursing care of clients with acute and chronic variations in health and increasing knowledge of care of clients through the lifespan. You will apply the nursing process for care of the newborn, child, adult and geriatric populations with short-term and long-term variations in health. You will acquire knowledge regarding healthy pregnancy, childbirth, and care of infants. You will practice provision of care of adults and elderly. You will utilize the nursing process and evidence-based practice to support expanding knowledge of therapeutic communication, health promotion, and disease prevention. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites:  Admission to the Professional Nursing program.
Co-requisites:  NPRO 1150 and PSYC 2240

Description:  This course focuses on health assessment of clients for health promotion and disease prevention, and those clients with chronic and acute variations in health. You will implement the nursing process for comprehensive and focused physical assessments, and demonstrate and differentiate collaborative and culturally congruent care practices throughout the lifespan. You will utilize evidence-based practices for the implementation of comprehensive and focused health assessment. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites:  NPRO 1000 or NPRO 1010
Co-requisites:  NPRO 1100 and PSYC 2240

Complex Health Concepts (NPRO 2000)

Description:  This course focuses on the nursing care of clients with chronic and acute variations in health including those with lived mental health experience. You will expand concepts previously introduced, apply and examine collaborative and safe nursing care for clients, families, and promote the health of clients throughout the lifespan. You will practice provision of care of adults, elderly, infants, children, and pregnant clients. You will investigate and compare inflammation to expand knowledge of care throughout the life span, including clients with lived mental health care experience including therapeutic communication, and inter-professional practice in the provision of safe and effective care. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites:  NPRO 1100 and NPRO 1150
Co-requisites:  BIOL 2235 and BIOL 2229

Synthesis of Health Concepts in Nursing (NPRO 2100)

Description:  This course focuses on the nursing care of clients with complex variations in health. You will expand on previously introduced concepts, evaluate and prioritize quality care practices, and apply safe nursing judgment for patients, families, and communities across the lifespan. You will provide care for adults, older adults, and individuals with lived mental health disorders in the clinical setting. You will examine clinical practice and integrate evidence-based approaches to expand understanding of developmental factors, culturally responsive care, and legal and ethical aspects of nursing that promote safe, outcomes-based care and advance health equity. Must be taken A–F.
