Industrial Sewing Methods (FADE 1000)

Description:  This course provides hands on technical, detail-oriented sewing instruction through lecture, demonstration, practice and application in an industrially equipped laboratory. You will learn industrial sewing techniques, basic garment construction, industrial equipment operation and basic machine maintenance. Standard techniques and terminology introduced in this course will prepare you for further study in the Fashion Design Technologies program. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042

Pattern Drafting (FADE 1010)

Description:  This course covers the development of a basic sloper set. You will learn to take accurate measurements from professional dress forms, draft foundation patterns, assemble mock-ups, analyze fit, and preform corrective adjustments. You will learn pattern making and techniques, and learn to use drafting tools for the apparel industry. Must be taken A-F.

Fashion Imaging (FADE 1025)

Description:  This course will provide an introduction to fashion illustration using a variety of methods including hand-rendered drawing and computer-based vector illustration. You will learn to create technical flats and fashion sketches. Must be taken A-F.

Description:  This class focuses on fabrics, a key part of clothing and other sewn products. Pattern Design and Manipulation (FADE 1120)

Description:  This course will provide you with the technical skills essential for developing industry standard patterns for designs in woven and knit fabrics. You will analyze, develop and construct patterns for basic and advanced design components and full garments. You will learn industry flat pattern techniques and principles, and gain familiarity with the industry pattern process. Upon completion of the course, you will fully pattern an original design. Must be taken A-F

Garment Construction (FADE 1125)

Description:  This course covers intermediate garment construction techniques. You will be introduced to hand stitches, inner support materials, facings, linings, zipper applications, and closures used to construct quality garments. You will construct half scale garments with zippers and linings, a full scale fully lined vest and a pair of pants with pockets and fly front closure. Must be taken A-F.

Computer-Aided Design (FADE 2100)

Description:  This course provides training in CAD pattern development software. You will learn to digitize, audit, grade, and plot patterns as well as marker making. You will perform 2D pattern development and manipulation techniques to create custom styles, test fit the patterns on a 3D avatar and apply digital colors, prints, buttons, and logos. Must be taken A-F.

Draping and Pattern Construction (FADE 2105)

Description:  In this course you will learn the art of creating patterns by draping fabric on a dress form. You will start with basic techniques and progress through advanced garments. Through the draping method you will transform draped garments into flat patterns. Must be taken A-F.

Product Development and Manufacturing (FADE 2115)

Description:  This course provides an overview of the product development and manufacturing process for the apparel industry. You will design, develop a technical specification pack, and create a prototype for an apparel product. You will learn techniques in trend forecasting, defining a target market, line development, prototyping, material sourcing, costing, technical specification writing, and manufacturing. Techniques for incorporating sustainability, equity, diversity and inclusion into the product development process will also be covered. Must be taken A-F.

Description:  This course provides techniques for solving fitting problems with a variety of garments. You will analyze and assess improper fit for many body types with a variety of garments. Clothing Line Design (FADE 2125)

Description:  This capstone course is the culmination of the Fashion Design Technologies program, designed to showcase your creative and technical expertise. You will conceptualize, design, and produce an original clothing line from initial idea to finished collection. You will deepen your understanding of pattern making, fit analysis, fabrication, and fashion marketing. By the end of the course, you will present a professional-quality cohesive collection that reflects quality, industry standards, and skills gained in the Fashion Design Technologies program. Must be taken A-F.

Internship (FADE 2200)

Description:  This course provides experiences in an industry setting with an apparel manufacturer. You will have the opportunity to see the manufacturing process in person, and apply fashion design technology skills at a worksite. You will also develop a resume and practice interview skills. Internships are only available to Associate of Applied Science students. Must be taken A-F.

Special Occasion and Couture (FADE 2210)

Description:  This course will explain and demonstrate the skill of developing patterns in a size range. You will learn fundamental methods and useful guides to grading patterns for various garments. Leather Construction (FADE 2220)

Description:  This course provides instruction in cutting, preparing, and stitching leather goods using specialized tools. You will learn about hardware and installation techniques. You will learn about leather characteristics, tanning processes and their environmental impacts. You will learn which leathers are bi-products of other industries, and which are manufactured solely for use as a material. You will cut and assemble leather and fur bags and accessories, including one capstone project which you will design and develop. Must be taken A-F.

Description:  This course provides hands on technical, detailed instruction through lectures, demonstration, practice, and application in an industrially equipped laboratory. You will learn techniques for maintaining, cleaning, and repairing both industrial and home sewing machines. The skills learned in this course will enable you to maintain and fix your own sewing equipment and be a more successful and self-reliant entrepreneur in an industry where repair technicians are limited. These skills will also be valuable to employers seeking talent that can service machines in a manufacturing setting. Must be taken A-F.
