This course covers the classification and use of surgical instruments, along with the cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization processes for equipment, including endoscopes. You'll learn to identify surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies used in surgical and clinical areas of healthcare facilities. You will apply the principles and techniques of sterilization, and monitor and maintain quality assurance standards. Additionally, you'll gain an understanding of the role of microbiology in the Sterile Processing department. The course emphasizes decontamination principles, the significance of personal protective equipment and standard precautions, as well as monitoring and maintaining quality assurance indicators. Must be taken A-F.

You will learn how to recognize the crucial role that sterile processing and purchasing interfaces play in healthcare facilities. Through practical exercises, you will learn how to effectively manage and distribute inventory, including establishing key control parameters. You will learn how to track and manage the aspects of surgical supply stock. Additionally, the course will help you become more aware of products that might be misplaced or go missing. Must be taken A-F.

Description:
This course provides comprehensive training in identifying, caring for, and safely preparing medical instruments and equipment used in endoscopic procedures. Emphasis is placed on the proper handling, processing, and infection control techniques for endoscopic instruments and scopes. Instruction covers assisting in various endoscopic procedures, selecting appropriate scopes for the specific procedures, and aiding patients pre- and post-procedure. You will learn how to maintain the procedure flow by assisting with room setup, patient transfer, and ensuring the smooth transition between procedures in the room. Must be taken A-F.

Sterile Processing Internship (STER 1130)

Description:
This internship includes 120 hours of training in a clinical setting. During the internship you will apply basic procedures important in the control of inventory and in the distribution of materials throughout the facility. This internship will also provide opportunities for you to apply industry approved practices for decontamination, sterilization, and transport of surgical instruments including endoscopes and other complex equipment. To be eligible to complete the internship you must pass all of the HCCC courses with a grade of P and all STER courses with a grade of 'C' or better. Must be taken Pass/No Credit
