Industrial Sewing Methods (APRL 1000)

Description:  This hands-on course provides technical, detail-oriented sewing instruction through lecture, demonstration, practice and application in an industrially equipped laboratory. Upon completion of this course, you will have knowledge of industrial sewing techniques, basic garment construction order, industrial equipment operation and basic maintenance. In this course, use of standard techniques and terminology prepares you for further coursework in the Fashion Design Technologies program. Must be taken A-F.
Prerequisites:  Placement into READ 0200 or ESOL 0052 or completion of READ 0100 or ESOL 0042

Fashion Imaging (APRL 1025)

Description:  This course will provide an introduction to fashion illustration using a variety of traditional methods and computer-based Vector Illustration basic applications. You will learn about technical (flats) and stylized drawing. Must be taken A-F.

Description:  This is an elective course that permits you to spend an additional 100 minutes per week of faculty-supervised time working in program laboratories on projects required by coursework being taken concurrent with the open lab. Must be taken A-F.

Pattern Design and Manipulation (APRL 1120)

Description:  This course will provide you with the technical skills essential for developing industry standard patterns for designs in woven and knit fabrics. You will analyze, develop and construct patterns for basic and advanced design components and full garments. You will learn industry flat pattern techniques and principles, and gain familiarity with the industry pattern process. Upon completion of the course, you will fully pattern an original design. Must be taken A-F

Pattern Development 1 (APRL 1360)

Description:  This course covers the development of basic bodice and sleeve slopers, using body measurements. You will learn to take accurate measurements, analyze fit, and make pattern adjustments. You will create style variations by learning to manipulate basic slopers. You will learn appropriate terminology and use drafting tools to make working and final patterns. Must be taken A-F.

Garment Construction (APRL 1400)

Description:  This course covers intermediate garment construction techniques. You will be introduced to hand stitches, inner support materials, facings, linings, zipper applications, and closures used to construct quality garments. In this course you construct half scale garments with zippers and linings, a full scale lined vest and pants with pockets and fly front closure. Must be taken A-F.

Computer-Aided Design (APRL 2150)

Description:  This course provides training in CAD pattern development software. You will learn to digitize, audit, grade, and plot patterns as well as marker making. You will perform 2D pattern development and manipulation techniques to create custom styles, test fit the patterns on a 3D avatar and apply digital colors, prints, buttons, and logos. Must be taken A-F.

Draping and Pattern Workroom (APRL 2355)

Description:  Draping is the art of creating patterns by draping fabric on a dress form; it is the three-dimensional method that allows for visual analysis. You will start with basic bodices and advance through bias draping. You will also learn the industrial pattern workroom process from design through production patterns. Must be taken A-F.

Description:  This course presents advanced levels of garment construction. You will explore specialized construction applications and complex garment details. Fitting Analysis and Application (APRL 2540)

Description:  This course provides techniques for solving fitting problems with a variety of garments. You will analyze and assess improper fit for many body types with a variety of garments. Description:  This course is a capstone to the Apparel Technologies program. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate concepts and skills by developing a line of clothing. Description:  This course provides experiences in an industrial setting with an apparel manufacturer. Description:  Proposed Description: This course provides an overview of the product development and manufacturing process for the apparel industry. You will design, develop a technical specification pack, and create a prototype for an apparel product. You will learn techniques in trend forecasting, defining a target market, line development, prototyping, material sourcing, costing, technical specification writing, and manufacturing. Techniques for incorporating sustainability, equity, diversity and inclusion into the product development process will also be covered. Must be taken A-F.
