Description:  This high-intermediate integrated skills language class provides you with instruction, practice and knowledge of academic English and American cultures. You will learn about and use basic grammar structures in reading, writing and oral language; read fiction/nonfiction for main ideas and supporting details; develop academic vocabulary; use the writing process, editing and revision to create effective paragraphs and shorter essays; make oral presentations; participate in group work; self-monitor your speech for accuracy; and develop your academic note-taking skills.

It is a high-intermediate integrated skills language class provides you with instruction, practice and knowledge of academic English and American cultures. Writing and Oral Communication Skills 4 (ESOL 0041)

Description:  This course further develops high intermediate level writing and oral communication skills in a variety of situations. You will improve your grammar, fluency and self-editing ability, and learn to write essays and give presentations. You will also practice and improve your writing skills through extensive writing and word processing. Must be taken Pass/No Credit.

Description:  This course further develops your ability to understand a variety of high intermediate written and audio materials. You will learn to identify main ideas and supporting details in nonfiction, increase your reading and listening comprehension, analyze features of fiction, and participate in academic discussions. In addition, you will increase your vocabulary using a variety of strategies. Must be taken Pass/No Credit.

Description:  This course focuses on providing advanced multilingual students whose native language is not English with the ability to understand and use aspects of grammar, style and organization that cause unique problems for non-native English speakers and writers. You will learn a variety of writing, listening, and speaking skills necessary to succeed in entry-level college writing and communications courses. This course must be taken Pass/No Credit.

English Pronunciation for Professionals (ESOL 1000)

Total Credits:  3   Lecture Credits:  2   Lab Credits:  1  
Description:  This course for advanced students will focus on the sounds and rhythm of American English. Classroom and computer-based activities will show you how to speak more clearly. You will also work intensively on voice quality and American English tones and speed to improve your overall clarity for the workplace. This course requires two hours of practice per week in the language lab.
