Description:
Beginning Arabic introduces students to the classic, contemporary Arabic language, including the written alphabet and sound system. You will develop basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills necessary to communicate about self, family and daily life, as well as basic survival needs. You will also explore cultural aspects of the Arabic-speaking world, as well as various dialectical variations in the Arabic-speaking world.

Description:
This course is a continuation of
ARAB 1000 and is also appropriate for the students who have completed one semester of Arabic at another liberal arts institution.. You will learn the use of past tense structures and pronoun usage. You will continue to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills necessary to communicate about self, family, and daily life, as well as on abstract concepts such as feelings and emotions: You will also explore cultural aspects of the Arabic-speaking world. This course will prepare you for intermediate-level Arabic courses.

Description:
This course presents an overview of Arab culture. You will explore the Arabic world through geography, governance, religion, ethnicity, gender, class, literature, film, media, music, art, food, and daily life. You will learn about current political and social issues as well as the immigrant experience and relations between the Arab and non-Arab worlds.

Intermediate Arabic 1 (ARAB 2000)

Description:
This course is a continuation of Arabic 1000 & 1100. You will advance your writing, conversation and comprehension skills in Arabic to a higher level of competency. In addition, as an intermediate Arabic student, you will improve your ability to create independent sentences, while reading authentic Arabic texts. You will also deepen your understanding of the cultural differences among various Arabic-speaking countries.

Intermediate Arabic Language 2 (ARAB 2100)

Description:
This course is a continuation of ARAB 2000. You will advance your written, conversational and understanding skills in Arabic to a higher level of competency. In addition, as the second intermediate Arabic language course, you will improve your ability to create independent sentences, while reading authentic Arabic texts. You will also read and discuss a variety of short cultural and historical texts to deepen your understanding of the cultural differences amongst various Arabic-speaking countries. You will further develop your language proficiency in the modern standard Arabic in the four language skill areas.
