The Environmental Science AS degree offers students the opportunity to complete an Associate of Science degree with course credits intended to transfer to the designated bachelor's degree programs. Students will receive a broad training in foundational life science courses as well as course work in physical, analytical, and social sciences. Students will relate these principles and the results of hypothesis driven field and laboratory experiments to the natural environment. After completing the degree, students will be prepared to enter the workforce at a technician level or transfer to earn a BS and seek employment as a scientist, resource manager, or educator.
PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Relate principles of biology, chemistry, and physics to environmental systems.
2. Evaluate the inter-relatedness of human social, ethical, and political issues and the natural environment.
3. Utilize the scientific method to formulate and test hypotheses through appropriate experimental design including the analysis and interpretation of quantitative data.
4. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
5. Explain and apply basic principles of natural and physical sciences.
6. Apply, evaluate, and synthesize laboratory techniques, field methods, data collection and data analysis.
