Minneapolis College’s Early Childhood Education program works closely with Minneapolis College’s Education program emphasizing cultural diversity and urban teaching. Working with children and families of all backgrounds, you will learn to create healthy, respectful and challenging learning environments in urban childcare centers, nursery schools, elementary classrooms and after-school programs.

 

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Design activities and environments that support the physical, cognitive, social, and behavioral development of all children and youth including those with exceptionalities
2. Recognize pathways into the teaching profession and possess the knowledge and skills for immediate employment in the early childhood education field
3. Generate plans for individual and class curriculum and environments based on information from observation and assessment tools
4. Summarize strategies to work and communicate with families, colleagues and communities of all cultures and socioeconomic classes to support student success
5. Demonstrate ability to follow developmentally appropriate practices in planning safe learning environments that encourage positive playful experiences that support cognitive, creative, and social development for all children
6. Analyze within the historical context of early childhood education how current policies and Minnesota State rules and statutes impact students, teachers and schools
