Description:
This course is an introduction to photographic and video capture process and digital workflow using digital SLR and/or mirrorless cameras. You will capture still and video image files as you learn how to navigate camera menus, calculate exposure, control white balance, depth of field, subject motion, focal length and use composition techniques for photo and video. You will develop a practical still and motion image vocabulary.
You must provide your own DSLR or mirrorless camera with video capability for this course. Consult with instructor for camera recommendations.

Description:
This course is an introduction to editing software used in the photo/videography industry. You will use a variety of editing software to practice digital workflow techniques for both still photography and video while preparing files for multiple end uses. Description:
This course covers basic lighting techniques used by all professional photographers in creating both still and motion imagery. You will learn the control of the five lighting elements of quality, direction, ratio, quantity and color as they relate to creating three-dimensional contrast. You will explore the application of daylight, continuous and strobe lighting in the studio and on location using light modifying devices.
You must provide your own dSLR or mirrorless camera with video capability for this course. Consult with instructor for camera recommendations.

Description:
This course introduces students to the practical duties and responsibilities of a professional assistant working in the photography and video industry. You will get hands on experience with many different lighting and camera systems and the grip tools used in still photography and motion capture. You will also be exposed to the expectations and demands of working as a professional assisting through field trips, guest speakers and real-life opportunities to assist program staff and advanced students working as photographers.

Description:
This course is a continuation of the basics learned in Camera Techniques. You will work with specialized cameras and lenses to create macro, 360° images and motion techniques with 10 stop neutral density filters. You will be introduced to drone photography and will fly them while shooting video and stills. Digital backs on medium format cameras will be used in the studio and you will get hands on experience with these amazing cameras.

Description:
This course provides Photography and Motion students with the basic video production skills necessary to produce digital media presentations involving motion, audio, and still photography. You will capture HD video and still images with digital SLRs (HD-SLR’s) and you will capture audio with external recording devices. You will use video editing software to edit these captured media assets into short presentations for classroom- and internet-presentation.

Description:
This course will introduce you to all aspects of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS). You will learn about different types of drones, their specifications and imaging capabilities. You will discover how imaging from drones is expanding for many industries, including real estate, advertising, wedding, event, construction, security, search and rescue. You will get hands on experience flying different drones and learning their imaging capabilities both still and motion. A major portion of the class will be preparing for the FAA part 107 sUAS Pilot Certification.

This course explores portraiture, and its relationship to storytelling through still photography and video. You will examine the professional marketplace and become familiar with the unique visual language of portraiture. This course deals with the relationship of visual objects to movement and time within a camera frame for both still image and video capture. You will utilize photographic compositional techniques and design elements as you explore a variety of subject genres including portrait, landscape, architecture and still life. You will develop an understanding of visual aesthetics and demonstrate that knowledge during group and peer critiques.

This course provides Photography and Motion students a more advanced understanding of video production skills and video editing software through a variety of professional techniques. Description:
This course lays out the basic tools and strategies necessary to launch a successful still photography and motion business. Using branding techniques, you will explore logo development, the creation and distribution of self-promotional materials, and how to establish an online presence through the creation of a website. You will develop a cost-of-doing-business and marketing plan. Other topics include how to estimate, invoice, select insurance, and license your images for maximum profit and protection under copyright law.

Description:
The Photography Internship is an opportunity for supervised work experience that provides an important practical knowledge as well as a useful link to the job market. You will obtain an internship site that supports your special areas of interest and provides opportunities to interact with professionals in their working environment. You will keep a detailed journal during your internship experience, arrange a site visit for your Minneapolis College internship supervisor and meet with or participate in on-line discussions with other PHMO internship students. This is a variable credit course, it can be taken for 1,2 or 3 credits. Program requires 1 credit which equals 40 hours at the internship site.
